Welcome To The Lodge

Welcome to my 'Lodge'. Like most people my age, I wear many hats. I am a dad and husband, I am a high school math teacher, I am an Eagle Scout and Vigil Honor member, and I've been called a 'computer geek'. This site combines all of those things. You will find photos and family news, Linux HOWTOs, math lessons and ideas, and just about anything else I feel like sharing.

Besides a way for me to share my knowledge, this sites other purpose is a way for me to practice and display my web design skills. I am a big proponent of standards compliant HTML and pages that are useable with ALL browsers. With technology the way it is today, people are no long 'surfing the web' while sitting at their desk. Today people use laptops, handhelds, phones, TV's, and who knows what will be coming in the future. These devises do not all use the same browser, or have the same screen size, some have pointing devices (like a mouse) and some don't. The only way to make a site that is useable by all these people, without making multiple sites, is to create your site using only the standards.

As a result, all of that pages here are compliant to the standards put forth by the W3C. All the affects you see are all done with only CSS, no Java-script, no flash, etc. Those things are great, but only with browsers that can use them. The only Java-script present is the ability to switch the CSS sheets, and that is only because some browsers do not have the ability built in.

If you want to know a little more about my design philosophy, why standard compliant code is so important, or how to use this site, check out the about this site page.
