Like many others, my wife and I have a mailbox the is constantly overflowing. Many of these were from well meaning friends and relatives sending chain letters. Some of these chain letters were easy enough to see as a hoax. (Do you really think something will run across the screen if you forward a message to 15 people?) But others seemed legit enough, so we would forward them. (Don't condemn me, we were newbies :-) ) One day a friend forward me a message with the subject line FACTS ABOUT CHAINLETTERS and after reading it our ideas about chain letters changes. Now I think that this info should be handed out to everyone as soon as they open an e-mail account, but since that won't happen, I figured I could share it with you all. The Internet etiquette is from an old textbook of mine. Due to the changes in the Internet since the book was written, I got rid of it. But I did keep a few pages. The text file you will find is an abbreviated version of the pages I kept. I would like to give credit to the book, but I do not have that info. Both of these are text files (.txt) so most browsers will open the page so that you can read it, but if you want to keep it you will need to save it somehow. Some of you will be able to do a "save target as..." some will have to cut-n-paste. Or if you like you can download a self-extracting file with both files included.
