Viewability of My Site

Use any Browser, this site uses HTML standards. Microsoft is not NEEDED here!

This site is build using a text editor and standard HTML structure as recommended by the W3C. I have also tried to make the site as backward compatible as I could. There are text ALTernatives to pictures, FRAMEs are not used but faked by TABLEs (menu bar), TABLEd pages can also be read with a browser that does not interpret them.

As a result, EVERYONE is welcome here, regardless of their platform, their OS, or the browser used. All the pages should also be viewable by disabled people and even by blind people.

If you encounter some difficulties or have some comments about one or more of my pages, feel free to contact me:

History of My Site

When I first designed this site, I was using MS Word and MS Outlook Express. After I became more involved, I learned that there would be compatibility problems between different browsers. I began to wonder what good was it to make a site to share my knowledge if not everyone could use it. Now, I know, some people may say that I just have a little, personnal web site, why should I worry if everyone can see my page? Well first and foremost, everything that I put my name on, I want to make sure that it is the best it can be. How good would my site be if not everyone could use it. Second, isn't the greatest thing about the Web the ability to make information available to everyone, everywhere, at anytime? Third, not everyone has high speed connections. I have seen some sites full of wonderful information, but it took me so long to load each page, that I final left and got my information somewhere else. The list could continue. But if I haven't convinced you maybe you should read the article by Jahn Rentmeister. This is an article every Web Designer should read. For that matter, anyone who pays someone else to design their page should read it as well.

So to the dismay of some, I have worked very hard to revamp my site to make it as compatible as possible to all viewers. If you are a site designer, and you want to make your site as accessible as possible, then check out The Web Design Group. This site is just chalked full of information on how to make your site Browser-Independent, but not loose any of that so-desired impact. Another helpful site is the Delorie Software Web page. It allows you to check the compatibility of your page. One of the best resources I found was a program called Browserola 1.01. The downloadable software is billed as a browser-emulator. You only need one kind of browser on your computer, and Browserola will emulate Netscape 1.0 to 4.0, IE 1.0 to 4.0, and HTML 2.0 to 3.2. The best thing about the program is I did not have to spend time on-line, or even have my page on-line. You can download an evaluation copy at www.codo.com. The evaluation copy allows you to use it 25 times, then you must register. (Be sure to check out the Making A Good Web site category on Our Favorites page for links to all of the resources I used.)

With a little work, and a lot of help, I think I have reached my goal. Although the view is not identical in all the browsers, it does seem to be acceptable. So I would suggest to everyone who designs Web sites, use all the resources you can to make your site Browser Friendly.

NOTE TO ALL: So what is this LYNX INSPECTED button I see on each page? For those of you who do not know LYNX is a text only browser. If you haven't tried it yet, you really need to give text browsers a shot. (Visit my LYNX page for my testimonial and links.) I have inspected each page with my own copy of DOSlynx for Win32. I have tried to make the layout as friendly as I can, but if you see a problem please contact me.

Below I have listed different browsers and how they view the site. If your browser is not on the list, or if you find your browser worked differently then below, please let me know. And to anyone who finds problems viewing the site, please contact me so that I can fix the problem. You can contact me at KVSmaster@cs.com.
