GNU Alternatives

The GIMP 1.2.3

Alternative Graphics Program

The GIMP (GNU Image Manipulation Program) is an amazingly powerful graphics editor. Some compare it to Photoshop. The GIMP has shown itself to be so versatile and powerful that many movie studios are now using it to assist in their special effects department. If you are a artist, photographer, or web designer (by profession or as a hobby) then you will probably find GIMP will meet all your needs, and it is FREE!

It features an impressive collection of filters and tools. The GIMP is completely controllable by scripts, which makes it a very versatile and powerful tool for automated graphic generation (for web pages for instance) or for applying the same changes to a larger number of images. The GIMP is often compared to Photoshop, and most people who use both The GIMP and its proprietary equivalents actually prefer The GIMP. NOTE: Although The GIMP will run with as little as 32MB RAM and an 800x600 screen resolution, it is highly suggested that it be run on machines with 64MB RAM and 1024x768 screen resolution or better.
